MAOIs (or MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors), may of which occur in nature, may be utilised alongside the DMT experience (including the Ajna Light) to enhance the effects. They are most commonly used when DMT is ingested orally (for instance in the Amazonian brew Ayahuasca, where the Bannisopteris Caapi vine is mixed with the leaves of the DMT-rich Psychotria Viridis plant) as the human body possesses enzymes which will otherwise break down the DMT immediately, thus preventing it from passing the blood-brain barrier. When a MAOI is used, however, the action of this enzyme is blocked and the DMT is metabolised.
MAOIs are not required when DMT is ingested through inhalation/vapourisation (smoking) or injection.
Most interestingly, early research has shown that the use of MAOIs (often drunk as a tea of, for instance, Syrian Rue) does indeed produce an enhancement of the effects experienced by users of the Ajna Light, giving further eight to the assertion that the root cause of the Ajna Light experience is from the release of DMT by the pineal gland.
